I've always had a fascination with the Everglades; always wanted to go and know that today, it is nothing like it was 40 years ago. Michael James takes you back to 1973 when he was 13 or 14 and went on hunting trips with his father and friends. His description of the rawness, wildness and beauty of the everglades comes through loud and clear. At the end, James ties it beautifully together with reflections on those times, now 40 years later. It's a lovely tribute to the Everglades and the people who were brave enough to dive in deep. I didn't want the book to end.Product details

I really enjoyed reading Billy's Camp. It made me smile, remembering all the details my parents had shared with me about their own wild hunting adventures in the Everglades. Reading this book is like taking a a peek into the past to a time where the deer ran faster, boars were meaner, and everyone constantly fought the muck to get their buggies unstuck. I wish I could have been there. For a while tonight, I think I was. Thanks Mr. James for a great book!
