This is a very interesting book written by Mabel Bent in 1899. The book details her and her husbands travels through Southern Arabia and the Sudan. It is a little like a travelogue which discusses that places they visit, the high and the low points of each town they pass through and their dealings with the different Arab tribes that they encounter. Reading the book is a little like sitting on Mabel Bent camel and listening to her comments about each encounter that her and her husband have. Some of it is quite picturesque as they travel through areas of hidden rivers, streams and lakes and encounter a beautiful Arabia beyond the usual desert descriptions. Mabel's husband, with whom she traveled with for years, died four days before their last journey ended and she wrote the book as a tribute to him. Mabel seems to have been quite a remarkable woman traveling and sleeping without complaint wherever their camels stop for the night encountering sand storms, scorpions, and the danger and the loud singing and noise of their Arab hosts with no word of complaint ever heard from Mabel. She was a remarkable traveler and woman and her story is a remarkable story well written in the year 1899.Product details

Southern Arabia J Theodore 18521897 Bent Theodore Bent 9781177297899 Books Reviews
This publication is of very poor quality and incomprehensibly "edited". It is NOT recommended to anyone !!! It is not a clear repruduction of an old publication (as I was believed to have been), but a completely mangled "edition" with many incomprehensible inclusions throughout the text that are not in the original and very strange mix-ups of lines and pages, paragraphs. my ADVISE do not by this volume published by this "publishing agency".
